George Coetzee fell short in his title challenge in the Open de France, despite producing among the most unlikely birdies of the season throughout the final round.
Coetzee let a edge slip over the last six holes to end the week in third place, having left a charge up the leaderboard in unlikely manner at the par-five ninth.
The Southern African’s tee finished left of the fairway and just inches leaving Coetzee needing to remove sneakers and his socks to wade into the water to play his shot.
Coetzee was able to find a stance in the water to create a clean connection and send the ball up the fairway, but then missed the green to depart himself confronting a hard up and down to save par.
Even the European Tour winner had other ideas chipping into the first of three birdies at a stretch to place strain.
